What did one oyster say to another?
"What's wrong? You never open up to me anymore."
That's a lame joke, I know! Joking aside, there are some things that you should know about eating oysters.
I love oysters and just this past week I bought a dozen oysters at the local supermarket. I am not sure if they were Gulf oysters but I was very happy with the price I paid for the oysters.
I have never liked eating oysters raw because they taste and smell too fishy, and I hate the slimy feel going down my throat. I prefer them steamed or baked.
Which is a good thing. According the Be Oyster Aware site, people who have a weakened immune system like those suffering from stomach disorders, diabetes, cancer, or those suffering from liver diseases like hepatitis and cirrhosis should avoid eating raw oysters. Serious illness and even death could result from eating raw oysters.
However, eating raw oysters does not pose a health hazard to a healthy individual. Like I said earlier, I love oysters and one reason for it is that oysters make a low calorie meal. I can eat half a dozen oysters without feeling guilty!
