I had sambal petai (parkia speciosa in shrimp paste) at dinner last night, and wondered if petai had any blood sugar lowering properties. This morning my blood sugar reading was 81 mg/dL, which was excellent indeed.
Today I found a few articles that do indeed show that petai has some sugar lowering properties. It is my firm belief that bitter plants usually have some sugar lowering properties, and in this instance it happens to be true.
My search on the benefits of petai also resulted in a wonderful find.
I found a website called DiaMedBase: Diabetes Medicinal Plant Database. It is a wonderful resource for all the scientific studies that have been done on medicinal plants that have hypoglycemic activity!
I spent an enlightening hour just browsing through some of the more familiar medicinal plants. Bookmark this site, and spend some time studying the various medicinal plants especially if you have issues with diabetes.
